  • Send email messages to fax machines
  • Receive fax messages to an email address or printer
  • SPAM Fax Filter feature, which either eliminates SPAM traffic or quarantines it in a dedicated folder
  • Send/receive faxes within an email application such as Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Lotus Domino/Notes or GroupWise Mail
  • Send/receive faxes within a Web browser application
  • Receive fax jobs and deliver them as PDF files
  • Fax and email automatically from host business applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, SAP, PeopleSoft, and ERP
  • Ensure secure delivery and reception of sensitive information
  • Track fax service activity and components with multiple, detailed logs and status reports

FAXCOM fax servers can support all of these business communications capabilities because its fax server software is based on an open architecture that is ready to run with virtually any computing application, messaging environment and telephony interface. Moreover, developers of custom fax software applications can interface with the FAXCOM fax server via a range of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
As a prominent industry analyst has written, "Biscom was the first company to articulate an enterprise fax management strategy." Specifically, the Biscom strategy was - and is - to enable any company of any size to integrate desktop fax, network fax, production fax, and Internet fax capabilities into its workflow, business and messaging applications.
To that end, FAXCOM fax servers are available as either turnkey systems or customer- installable fax software, in scalable configurations that meet the needs of either the small business or the largest worldwide corporation.

1. How many fax ports does the FAXCOM fax server support?
The FAXCOM fax server supports from 2 to 96 ports per server. FAXCOM fax servers use Brooktrout intelligent fax boards, considered "top of the line" for computer telephony applications, and support a range of interfaces to the telephone network - analog loop-start, analog Direct Inward Dial (DID), E&M TIE line, digital T1, digital DID (DNIS), digital Primary Rate Interface (PRI), digital Basic Rate Interface (BRI)/PRI ISDN, and the major PBX systems, such as Lucent, Avaya and Nortel. Such a choice of fax boards and telephony options means there is a FAXCOM fax server that can precisely meet your present needs and anticipated future fax volume.

2. Can I interface the FAXCOM fax server with my email applications?
Absolutely. FAXCOM fax server's integration with email - Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Lotus Domino/Notes, GroupWise Mail, SMTP mail - is unsurpassed for both users and administrators. Users send and receive faxes as easily as they send and receive email. And fax server administrators configure and manage the fax service using the same programs with which they configure and manage their mail network, with Exchange System Manager, as a Domino database document, and with Novell's NWAdmin and ConsoleOne.

3. Can I send faxes over the Internet?
Yes. The FAXCOM fax server supports more than one method for faxing over the Internet. One method, the SMTP gateway enables an individual user to run an email package such as Eudora and specify a T.37-compliant email addressing string that sends the message to a fax number. By enhancing the T.37 specifications, the fax server software enables the user to specify the sender/recipient information to be displayed on the fax cover page, as well as other transmission options such as resolution, priority and message delivery confirmations. The other method, Least Cost Routing, enables you to use your TCP/IP-based data network to route a fax to a remote FAXCOM fax server, thereby minimizing the cost incurred when delivering faxes via long distance and international calls.

4. Can I interface my legacy and proprietary applications to the FAXCOM fax server?
Yes - with many choices for the specific application and implementation. The FAXCOM fax server supports: IBM mainframe print stream fax conversions; faxing from any terminal on your iSeries (AS/400); faxing from UNIX-based environments such as HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Compaq Alpha, Linux and AIX. In addition, we offer programmers a range of APIs: FAXCOM Command Language (FCL) for interfacing directly to the FAXCOM fax server; the Envelope Specifications and COM API for interfacing to the fax gateway. Biscom's Consulting Services (BCS) also creates customized applications in direct response to customer requests.

5. Can I send attachments with the FAXCOM fax server?
Absolutely. The Translation Server component of the FAXCOM fax server lets users simply click a toolbar button and attach output from any, or all, of the following: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Lotus 1-2-3, Lotus FreeLance, Lotus WordPro, WordPerfect, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, HTML documents, and more.

6. What are my options for receiving faxes?
There are many options, and you can use a combination of options to support your business and workflow needs. With Direct Inward Dial (DID) automatic inbound routing, inbound faxes can be routed directly to user's desktops, network printers, and/or Shared Fax Folders to which multiple users have access. You can route by the DID digits, a specific fax port on the FAXCOM fax server, as well as the Transmitting Station ID (TSID) of the sending fax machine. The FAXCOM fax server's receiving capabilities even include a SPAM Fax Filter feature, which either eliminates SPAM traffic or quarantines it in a dedicated folder.

7. What are the monitoring/tracking capabilities of the FAXCOM fax server?
As array of logs and status reports, as well as the JobTracking and HeartBeat modules. The FAXCOM HeartBeat Monitoring service (referred to as HeartBeat) enables the administrator of a FAXCOM fax queue to automatically and continually verify the capability of the system to successfully send/receive faxes by submitting faxes, then monitoring both the Status message returned for each submitted fax as well as the submitted fax as it is routed from submission to reception. JobTracking is a service that monitors the progress of inbound faxes from the moment the fax arrives at the FAXCOM fax server until the point when it is deposited into its internal destination, typically, a fax recipient mailbox. The service keeps a log of monitored events and raises an alarm whenever an expected event fails to occur within the allotted time period.

8. What assistance can Biscom offer me for using a FAXCOM fax server with T1 phone service?
We offer a T1 pre-installation screening to help ensure a smooth installation of the FAXCOM fax server. While T1 service can provide important advantages to an organization - such as cost savings, channel density and expanded inbound routing capabilities - properly integrating T1 service is a more complicated process than installing a simple business phone line. T1 contains variations that must be explicitly configured by mutual agreement between the fax server and the PBX or phone company. The T1 pre-installation dialog, which takes place between Biscom Technical Support, your technical representative and a representative of your phone company or PBX vendor, has proven very effective at resolving installation issues - and demonstrates the value to be gained from working with a company as experienced as Biscom.
